Bob's Music Shack is where I enjoy and share the music I love, especially American folk, country, rockabilly, bluegrass, rock and roll, jazz and all the ripples of that music around the world. If you like what I am doing here, please join and post too.

James Brown - Get up offa that thing - Midnight Special 1977 HQ
Passed along from my son Sam. Happy Thanksgiving, don't let the turkey(s) get you down, "get up offa that thing" and move around.

Lovin Spoonful You Didn't Have To Be So Nice
Maybe a little "schmaltzy" for today's sensibilities, but a pretty good and fun band in its day and in its way.
The Rolling Stones-Claudine
Shared from Kitt Cox. "He had it coming." She gave Spider some of that "old razzle dazzle." Why is this making me think of the musical "Chicago?"

Jimi Hendrix - Pali Gap
Version of this music from Kitt Cox --
Another version that I came across -- same music, same performance, but different video -- shows Hendrix playing, which is always a pleasure to see for those of us who have played a little guitar, perhaps an envious pleasure but a pleasure nevertheless --

Carlos Santana and John Mclaughlin Live - Flame Sky 1
At certain times, pretty often, I need a taste of this kind of soaring divine music to keep me going with some measure of sanity. It's funny, because I know plenty of people who say this kind of music drives them insane. There is no wrong to this. Reflect. Breathe. Let go. Aladdin Sane, said Bowie.

Grateful Dead - Deep Elem Blues (acoustic)
Everyone who thinks of the Grateful Dead (long may they live in our hearts and minds, Insha'Allah) only in terms of goofy "deadheads," drugs and their radio hits ("Touch of Grey," "Casey Jones" ["high on cocaine"]), has missed almost the entire experience and the entire point -- MUSIC -- American roots music, especially. There is also, of course, the original free-wheeling jazzy and improvisational stuff. But I have always had a special fondness for their blues, country and folk stuff, both arrangements of traditional archival material and original compositions.
Lights Of Manos by Orianthi
Guitar instrumental - almost ambient music style - played to video of wavering shimmering dreaming Northern Lights in Norway.

This Is It - Black Or White Cut - Michael Jackson & Orianthi
Today I am thankful for all the music in the world, especially all the music I love, and I am thankful that we had Michael Jackson passing through.
This video is another one of Michael Jackson rehearsing for the "This Is It" tour with Orianthi playing lead guitar. Damn, she is good! And the other thing - no matter how strange you may think Michael had become - this shows a guy in rehearsal in full command of his faculties and gifts.

Three From Orianthi
This lady rips it. The Crossroads 2007 blues segment - she was 22 then. Has played with Steve Vai, Santana, was hired to be lead guitar for the Michael Jackson "This Is It" tour." I believe the "Beat It" rehearsal segment was only a couple of days before MJ's death. I confess, I did not know about Orianthi until I watched the "This Is It" movie on VH1 recently.
