The Beatles Rain (2009 Stereo Remaster) (Original Promotional Video)

This happened moments ago. Heard the thunder, loud clap from just down the street. Saw the dark clouds gather and come my way. And then the rain came.

Bobby Lewis - (Couldn't Sleep At All Last Night) Tossin' and Turnin'

1958 Hits - Conway Twitty - It's Only Make Believe

The song (some believed to be by Elvis) was written between sets by Harold Jenkins (aka Conway Twitty) and drummer Jack Nance when they were in Hamilton, Ontario, playing at the Flamingo Lounge. The record took nearly one year to reach the top spot on Billboard, as well as #1 in 21 other countries.

Conway Twitty is also well known for his long-time country music partnership with Loretta Lynn.

1958 Hits - Jackie Wilson - Lonely Teardrops

This gentleman was one of the defining forces in '50's R&B, with a touch of Tin Pan Alley. But remember, some great soul songwriters came out of the Brill Building on Broadway and 49th in NYC.

Imelda May - Tainted Love

Chordettes - Mr. Sandman (1954 Original Remastered)

And now for something completely different. Another "Sandman" song.

Few songs more closely identify the "Sound of the '50's" than the Chordettes' "Mr. Sandman". The girls formed in Sheboygan, Wisconsin in 1946, later won a contest on Arthur Godfrey's "Talent Scouts", and in 1954 hit the bigtime with their barbershop harmony on this recording of "Mr. Sandman".

Metallica - Enter Sandman

Just mixing it up a bit .... Go James. Some of my favorite metal guitar work. "Enter Sandman" is the first song on the album Metallica (The Black Album).

Samuel Pomerene likes this.

Lyrics:

Say your prayers little one
Don`t forget my son
To include everyone
I tuck you in
Warm within
Keep you free from sin
'til the sandman he comes

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
We're off to never never-land

Something's wrong, shut the light
Heavy thoughts tonight
And they aren't of Snow White
Dreams of war
Dreams of liars
Dreams of dragons fire
And of things that will bite, yeah

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight

Exit light
Enter night
take my hand
We're off to never never-land

(whisper)
Now I lay me down to sleep (x2)
Pray the lord my soul to keep (x2)
If I die before I wake (x2)
Pray the lord my soul to take (x2)

Hush little baby don't say a word
And never mind that noise you heard
It's just the beasts under your bed
In your closet and in your head

Exit light
Enter night
Grain of sand

Exit light
Enter Night
Take my hand!
We're off to never never-land

Yeah, ha ha ha

Boom

Yeah, yeah
oh, whoa

We're off to never never-land

Take my hand
We're off to never never-land
Take my hand
We're off to never never-land

We're off to never never-land

Emmylou Harris : Even Cowgirls Get The Blues

What can I say? Emmylou. Since her beginnings in DC to her work with Gram Parsons, and on to Nashville to reign as one of the queens of country music. And she's worked with so many people -- Dolly Parton, Kitty Wells, Linda Rondstadt, Sarah McLachlan, John Prine, Dave Matthews, Dan Fogelberg, Sheryl Crow, Dwight Yoakam, and many more.

And the musicians who have played with/for her over the years -- Albert Lee, James Burton, Glenn D. Hardin, Barry Tashian, Chris Hillman, Gram Parsons.

Robert Plant - Falling in Love Again

Slow country gospel style; reminds me a bit of Sam Cooke's style.

Tito Puente y Charlie Palmieri - Jam En El Barrio

Inspired by a friend's post about Latin music on web radio. Loved listening to this music in NYC circa 1970.

Worked with Tito's son Ronnie as a fellow claims adjuster at Travelers Insurance Company in Yonkers. That was a job I got after I quit advertising, disillusioned because it involved so much bullshit (I know, I know ... I eventually made a career as a lawyer, go figure ...). Went to work for the insurance company at behest of another friend named Ron who came back from the Army and went to work there for paycheck until he knew what he was going to do next. He recommended it because you got a company car and got to drive around all day listening to the radio. Actually, very pleasant gig - up and down both sides of the Hudson River Valley up to about Newburgh and Brewster. I lived in the North Bronx at the time, near Montefiore Hospital, last stop on the D Train, which, if you rode it all the way to the other end, took you to Brighton Beach before it was Little Russia.
